How to Make an Amazon Wishlist

Updated: Feb 18

As the start of the school year approaches, you may be thinking of creating an Amazon wishlist.

This is a great way to get the supplies you’ll need. You may plan to share it with friends, family members, or the families of your upcoming students. Lots of people love to contribute to classrooms and feel it is a meaningful way to support teachers.

You’ll need to have an Amazon account to get started. Then, here’s how to make a wishlist.

Creating a Wishlist

  1. Click on “Account & Lists.”

  2. Select “Your Lists” then “Create a List.”

  3. Add a name for your list. Mine is called “Ms. Busch’s Teacher Wishlist.”

Adding Items to Your Wishlist

Now you’re ready to start building your list!

Search Amazon for products you are interested in. If you’re not sure where to start, you can search something like “classroom supplies,” “2nd grade books,” or “teacher must haves.” You might come across things you could really use.

Once you’ve found an item you’d like to add to your list, follow the steps below.

  1. Below the Delivery & Pickup section, locate the button that says “Add to List.” If you have multiple lists, this will be a drop down menu.

  2. Click on the name of your list. It’s added!

Sharing Your List

You can always go to your list to see what you have added and make any changes.

When you’re ready to share your list, there are a few ways to do it.

  1. Sharing a link – This is best for sending your list digitally (via email, posting on a school website, social media, etc.)

  2. Sharing a QR code – This is best for a paper format (open house handouts, back to school newsletters, etc.)

Whichever method you choose, keep in mind that people can’t support your list unless you share it with them!

I was a little hesitant to share my list at first. I didn’t want people to feel like they had to buy something.

Then I realized, why would they? All I am doing is sharing a link. People can scroll right past it if they’d like.

Don’t be afraid to put your list out there. You might be pleasantly surprised by the result.

How to Share a Link

  1. Go to your teacher wishlist on Amazon.

  2. At the top of the page, click on “Send list to others” or “Invite.” Either button will work.

  3. A pop up will come up asking if you’d like to send the list as “View Only” or “View and Edit.” You’ll want to select “View Only” so that others cannot make changes to the list.

  4. Select “Copy Link.”

  5. Past the link wherever you’d like to share it.

How to Share a QR Code

  1. To begin, follow the steps above for “How to Share a Link.”

  2. Once you’ve copied your link, you’ll use it to generate a QR code. There are many sites that do this for free. I like Me-QR.

  3. If you’re using Me-QR, you’ll simply select “Link/URL,” then paste the link. You can choose a fun frame if you’d like, then click “Download QR Code.”

  4. The QR code is now yours to share. You may copy and paste or import it into a document of your choosing. When people open the camera app on their phones, they can scan the code and it will take them directly to your wishlist.

Remember, QR codes are not as helpful online. If someone is viewing the QR code on their phone screen, they won’t be able to scan it. Similarly, if someone is viewing it on a computer or tablet, they’d probably prefer a link so they can shop on their device.

Get to It!

Well, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and make that list.

I’d love to hear how you plan or decide to use the materials on your list in the classroom. Let me know in the comments!
